With Alvin located in northern Brazoria County, the South Freeway (SH288) limited
access, multilane highway provides easy, direct access to Houston and the nation's largest interstate highway system. State highway 6 is the main East/West artery, State highway 35 runs North/South, while FM 528 connects the area to Clear Lake and NASA.
Alvin holds a reputation as an excellent place to live and do business. Historically, an
agricultural center then petrochemical, the area now possesses a varied and independent economy. While other cities have taken on the character of commuter suburbs serving the metropolitan Houston economy, the Alvin area maintains their economic independence with a strong industrial base.
A mild coastal subtropical climate and unique natural surroundings enable leisure-time
activities such as sports, gardening, hunting, fishing, swimming, boating, and many more
outdoor pastimes.
Also, within the scope of 30 minutes lies the Houston Astrodome, the sandy beaches of Galveston Island, greyhound racing and many other area attractions.
