Business Expo ’99 Charging Forward

Vendors and consumers take note! The Chamber sponsored Business Expo is in full swing with preparations! Booths are already being assigned with anticipations of having over 100 vendor booths for consumers to browse. The Expo is free and open to the public and will take place at Alvin Junior High School Cafeteria and Gymnasium on Sunday, February 28, 11 a.m.-4 p.m.

As a consumer, you may not be aware that it is usually unnecessary to go out-of-town for what you need. All your needs can be satisfied locally, by merchants who have a vested interest in and a commitment to our area. You will be surprised at the businesses in our area which provide unique services and merchandise. The Expo educates you the consumer on how to find the goods and services you need right in your own back yard.

Need a motion sensor light? How about a weekend stay including breakfast? Or maybe a glide rocker? Is there a handyman in need of tools and a toolbox? Would you like a ¼ page in the newspaper to sell your special item? Know a child who would enjoy a recliner? There are collectible items and goody baskets. All these items will be offered as door prizes with many more to come.

The Expo sponsors are Community Publications, Patco Lumber Co., Valline Communications, Enviro-Tex, and First National Bank. There are a couple slots still open for sponsors, if you’re interested call the Chamber office at 331-3944.

Vendors already participating are Alvin Independent School District, Texas-New Mexico Power Co., Temporary Employees, Inc., Holiday Inn-Nasa, Alvin Journal, DeWitt Furniture, Casa Ole, Heilig-Meyers, Alvin Community College, Kwik Kar Oil & Lube, The Old Ballpark, Antique & Craft Guild of Alvin, Moody National Bank, and Morning Star Homes. Time is running out to get your booth applications in.

If you are a member and did not receive an application in your November or December newsletter or if you are a non-member and want to reserve a booth, applications may be picked up or faxed from the Chamber office. Booth fees for members are $100 for an 8’ x 10’ or $175 for an 8’ x 20’ booth. Fees for non-members are $150 for an 8’ x 10’ or $275 for 8’ x 20’ booth. Electrical outlets are an additional $10 each. Entry deadline is February 1, 1999. Booth assignments are on a first come, first served basis. No cancellations or refunds will be given after that date. Don’t delay!

Something new to watch for! The Expo program will be inserted in the local newspapers. The insert will include all the sponsors, the vendor’s participating, a layout of the Expo booths, the special events planned, and activities for the children attending with their parents. Also, there will be a crossword puzzle published for attendees to turn in for a drawing for a $200 prize. Note it on your calendar to attend, you’ll be glad you did!
